TeamSites.com FAQ
- What is TeamSites.com?
TeamSites is a hosting provider specializing in content management sites for sports teams. What does that mean in English? It means we help you make a website for your team. We help you keep your team and their fans (parents, grandparents, etc.) updated with quality information. We also make it easy for you to keep the site up-to-date. You can read more about TeamSites on our About Page.
TeamSites's goal is simplicity. We don't have every feature of the major players - and that's on purpose. The reason: 90% of teams don't want or need those distractions. Who has time to update all that information? Who wants to wade through 40 settings and options for things they'll never want or need? We make running a team website easy.
- Can TeamSites.com help me?
Like we said in the previous question: TeamSites doesn't have the complex, time-consuming, and limited value features. So, if you're looking for things like event registration, tournament management, and payment collections, another website might be for you. But, if you're looking for an free and easy to use site that will keep your team's players, coaches, supporters, and fans happy with current information without making you spend hours managing a website, then TeamSites is for you.
- Is TeamSites.com Beta Testing? What is "Beta Testing"?
"Beta Testing" is the last stage of product testing, usually involving actual customers using the product.
TeamSites is in "Beta Testing" right now. We opened with minimal functionality and will expand with new functionality as our customers and visitors require. We'll also fix things that need fixing and change things that need changing. We want you to be extremely happy with your team's website.
- Is TeamSites.com really free? How much is it?
- Do I have to register? Do my players/parents have to register?
Only the person that creates the team's website must register. Nobody else needs to register. No coordination required - like we said, we like things simple.
- You need THIS feature! Where is it?
Sure, there's lots of features we could add. We will probably add several more in the upcoming weeks and months. But what we're really trying to do is keep it to the core features that make managing a team's website easy and quick.
If you think we're missing something you absolutely must have, you can use the contact form to let us know your thoughts. We're always happy to hear your comments and suggestions.
- Does the Roster stay private?
Rosters are private things - you don't want internet predators checking out your home phone number. So, if you choose to make your roster public, we only allow very limited information (First Name, Last Initial, and position).
However, we know how useful roster information can be, so there's a way to keep it private but viewable by people you allow. We do this with the use of a "Team Password". It's a single password set by the owner of the team site. Only people that know the password can view the information. How private you want the roster is up to you.
- Can I change the design of my TeamSites.com Web Site?
Right now the design choice is very limited - you can add some css (cascading style sheets) attributes to the home page. We're working on new templates and will add them as beta testing progresses.
- What are the System Requirements to use TeamSites?
Here's the list of what you'll need: a web browser (like Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Safari). That's it!
- Where can I upload photos and/or video?
Keeping with simplicity, we let you control your online photos and videos. Since TeamSites.com doesn't specialize in photo/video management, we leave that to the experts. After you upload your videos to YouTube.com or put your pictures on flickr.com or picasa.com, you can show thumbnails on your TeamSites website! All we need is the URL (aka the web address) of the image or video.
- How can I contact TeamSites.com
For technical and customer support, please use our Technical Support Contact Form. For non-technical/support question, we recommend using our General Contact Form.
Yes, it's really free. No charge for you - and no charge for your players! How can that be possible? First, we have one "employee" - the owner, developer, and CEO, Steve Cook (and he often refers to himself as "we" in this FAQ). This keeps the overhead extremely low. Second, we show ads on the team's pages. That's how we make the money hosting your team's website. But, don't think of that as a bad thing - through the miracles of modern technology, the ads tend to be very relevant and might actually be useful to you and your players and fans. When you click on the ads, it helps pay for the costs of hosting, so if you see something interesting, click it please *grin*.
